From the past months, AI tools like ChatGPT and likes creates buzz on the internet. This extends to different professional communities on field of engineering, marketing, project management, education, and also on design community.
People are clamoring on how this AI tools could replace jobs that we have right now. But the voices are divided, some take this as a tool to make our works accelerate more and bring more value on the table in less time.
AI tools are a double-edged sword, those who master it and use it wisely can benefit from it than just simply denying its possible return. Honestly, I also felt shaken when design AI tools comes around, but there are reminders that these tools are not here to replace us but to help us. It is up to us how we want to use these tools for our advancements.
Reading a lot of inputs from designers, and personal experience myself, I can list some of the possible things a designer can get out of a tool like ChatGPT.
8 ways how you can use ChatGPT to accelerate your work progress as a designer:
1. Creating dummy texts.
As a designer, we are so fed upwith “Lorem Ipsum” and it is not even ideal for real life copies. Ditch it, instead make use of ChatGPT to provide you dummy texts that is inline with the context of your needs.
Prompts sample:

As a designer we always do hand-offs of components with specification. ChatGPT can help us on making this part easier and faster. I recently use it to provide me specification description on when to use and functionality of different variations of a button. This will make creating hand-off document much faster.

6. Learning about a workflow.
When leveling up, you find your self reading and knowing workflows to improve your way of working and often times, this requires bunch of readings. ChatGPT can help summarize and suggest the essence of the workflow you want to learn. This will save you time and resources to just get the gist or the what is it all about.
Prompts sample:
- Explain to me the double diamond approach.
- How would you apply…
- What are the pros and cons of…
7. Brainstorming.
ChatGPT helps a lot when brainstorming, especially if you are working on a task alone and you need to gather and formulate design ideas to help you accelerate. ChatGPT would put a disclaimer for you to consider the factors that is affecting your decision. This gives a very nice way of suggesting that does not forces you to believe that it is the right answer.
Prompts sample:
- Suggest list of possible…
- What are the keywords related to…
